Hello Friend,
 
Welcome to our March Continuum. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of facilitating a free workshop for the Yarra Valley community affected by 'Black Saturday.' How do such people shine with their resilience, courage and wonderful sense of humour? Their stories and presence touched me deeply; one bio dynamic farmer's wisdom shone through with her acceptance that, in spite of the fires; life and love do eventually return full circle. Another shared the realisation, "The fire was a cleansing, I lost much, but I gained a clarity about who I was." Picture the mythological phoenix rising from the ashes and you get to witness, first hand, the residing strength in this tight community. Thank you to the tireless, Karen Dickson, from Cameron House in Yarra Glen; the invitation to laugh with extraordinary human beings was a profound pleasure.

The camaraderie and inspiration I have experienced with women across the globe since doing the 13 month Meditation Secrets for Women conference, facilitated by meditation pioneer and, dear friend Camille Maurine, has proved affirming, satisfying and fun. Women are indeed, natural meditators, once we discover our gateways, we don't need much urging; we just go for it.
 
And speaking of women, I have been invited to be a key note speaker at the Australian Meditation Conference in July, this year. I look forward to presenting on 'Women and Meditation', a topic rarely addressed, if ever, in the history and tradition of meditation. When classes are predominantly filled with women, how can we know for sure if women are happy and healthy in their meditation practice? What implications does this have for those who teach meditation? Has anyone really bothered to ask? With the support of Camille Maurine and Dr Lorin Roche , we hope to generate a lively and healthy discussion.
 
Many people ask me, where do I go for my yoga? The same wonderful space where we run our Sunday workshops. Soma Chi Yoga Studio in South Yarra offers a fusion of Vinyasa flow yoga with tai chi and martial arts influences; a clever blend created by principle and somatic therapist, Lianne Metcalf.
 
You are invited to lunch with Jenny Fox Eades - 'Celebrating our Children's Strengths' on Friday March 19th. An author, leading UK education advisor and director of Celebrating Strengths UK and Australia. Jenny's lunch will be hosted by my dear friend, Angelina Eynon (0408 270 566) from Positive Impact. A must for parents and those who work with kids!
 
The following poem was sent to me by friends who recently saw Mary Oliver speak, I dedicate it to the people who live in the Australian bush - they can survive almost, seemingly, anything.

Meditation in our Global Village
 
Meditate with Cows for Euro800
Stressed Dutch businessmen are paying up to Euro800 to lie on a bed of straw and meditate with cows.
A Dutch farmer has come up with the novel form of bovine meditation where businessmen head into the middle of a cattle barn, sit on the straw bedding and try to lose their worries. The experience has been pioneered by Corn de Regt who farms on the outskirts of Dutch town Denekamp, near the German border.
 
"Unfortunately the silence is often broken. When a cow drops something, or when the animals are unsettled. "But all of that belongs to the meditation sessions. Some of my guests complain about the smell. But that too, is all part of it. "Ultimately all of one's senses are stimulated through meditating alongside the animals. It is a unique experience. And most of the managers that come here like it." Mr de Regt runs a series of relaxation therapies on his farm.

Meditation May be the Future of Anti-Ageing
Scientific experts now believe we have in-built mechanisms that can fight and reverse the aging process. Innovative research into the reversal of aging is well underway and, while scientists debate the many different theories, research has revealed that meditation dramatically affects the production of three important hormones related to stress, longevity and ageing. Cortisol, DHEA and Melatonin.

Meditation May Aid Memory in Alzheimer's Patients
Could meditation increase brain activity and improve memory and cognition in people who have Alzheimer's disease? According to a study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania, the answer is yes. Results of the study appear in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease.
Dharma Singh Khalsa, MD, the founding president and medical director of the Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Foundation, is an expert on Kirtan Kriya (KK), the type of meditation used in the new study.Kirtan Kriya is a 12-minute singing exercise in the Kundalini yoga tradition that involves repetitive finger movements plus singing the sounds Saa Taa Naa Maa, ancient primal sounds from Sanskrit.
