July 2010
Hello friend,
With the 2010 Australian Meditation Conference a week away, here is a brief offering from my 40 minute key note presentation - 'Women and Meditation.'
"What do women need to thrive in meditation? In my experience, women feel subtly ashamed for being different from men, and are subtly shamed for it in the meditation, spiritual and religious industry. There can be judgement about women's emotions, her body and how she expresses herself. What needs to be said, even though it may be obvious, is that these differences are strengths and, they need to be seen and valued as strengths. These strengths compliment men. For women to be healthy in meditation, it must take into account the attributes of her body and psyche ..."
Following on from the conference presentation, there will be an all day Workshop - Discovering Your Needs As A Woman (An Introduction) Places are filling fast, so if you're intending but haven't actually registered, please act now. It will be one of a series - Exploring how women can learn to listen and trust their self-guiding instincts to develop and strengthen their authentic individuation, unique voice and personal evolution. It promises to be an engaging, playful and experiential day of self-discovery!

Finally, a poem for the chilly season. In Oriental Medicine, Winter is a time for reflection, submerged energy and hibernation. Hidden beneath the surface is the activity of gestation, bringing forth birth, renewal and emergence in Spring.
Sometimes the one who is running from life, death and nature
insists on thinking love as a boon only.
Yet love in its fullest form is a series of deaths and rebirths.
We let go of one phrase, one aspect of love and enter another.
Passion dies and is brought back.
Pain is chased away and surfaces another time.
To love means to embrace and at the same time to withstand many endings,
and many, many beginnings - all in the same relationship.
Clarissa Pinkola Estes
