Dr Lorin Roche
Lorin Roche, Ph.D. has been exploring, researching and teaching meditation for over 40 years. He began
practicing meditating and yoga in 1968 as part of brain wave and physiological research at the University of
California. At the lab he discovered the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, an ancient yoga sutra describing 112 ways of yoga
meditation, and this text became his lifelong love. In 1970 he was certified as a teacher of Transcendental
Meditation.
His Doctoral research focused on the language meditators come up with to describe their experiences – the maps
they make to navigate their inner worlds. Both his Master's and Doctoral research were based on an 8-year period in
which he sought out meditators of all types: Zen, Christian, Buddhist, Vipassana, Kundalini, TM, Sikh, Hindu,
Tibetan, Wicca, Native American, Theosophist, Arcana, Agni Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, Bhakti
Yoga, Brain Wave Biofeedback, Autogenic Training, Neurolinguistic Programming, Ericksonian Hypnosis, Gestalt,
Charltte Selver Sensory Awareness, Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement, Shamanism and other practices. Dr. Roche
is the author of multiple books including Meditation Made Easy, Breath Taking, Whole Body Meditations, as well as
the co-author of two others with his wife, Camille Maurine, Meditation Secrets for Women and Meditation 24/7.
Over the last 20 years, Lorin has translated the Vijnana Bhairava from Sanskrit into English, now in print as
The Radiance Sutras. www.lorinroche.com
